| 1 | pound | pinto beans | ||
| 1 | large | onion, chopped | ||
| 2 | tablespoons | garlic powder | ||
| 1 | teaspoon | garlic salt | ||
| 1 | tablespoon | chili powder | ||
| 1/2 | package | bacon | ||
| Screen beans for rocks and dirt; wash thoroughly. Soak beans in twice the amount of water
overnight; or for a faster method, put beans in twice the amount of water called for on the
package. Bring to a boil. Turn off the burner; put lid on and let stand for 1 hour. Meanwhile, fry up bacon and reserve grease. Put onion, garlic powder, garlic salt, chili powder, and approximately 3 to 4 tablespoons of bacon grease in pot with beans; adjust water as needed. Simmer for approximately 2 hours. When beans become soft, they are done. If desired, mash beans before serving. |
